Cartrack Geofencing

It may seem like a complicated concept but with Cartrack setting up a geofence has never been easier.

All assets (such as vehicles, equipment etc) are visible on the map, and users can use that map information to set up their geofence parameters.

Users can pick and choose which assets they want visible on the map, to make the process even easier.

What Is Geofencing?

Cartrack enables you to implement world-class geofencing for your fleet.

A geofence can either be created as a pre-defined set of boundaries or dynamically generated as a radius around a point location.

Geofencing works as a location-based service, with an app or other software using either GPS, wi-fi, Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) or cellular data to trigger a pre-programmed action whenever a mobile device or RFID tag enters or exits the virtual boundary.

  • A video to show people how easy it is to create a Geofence

You can set and view geofencing on a mobile app which is really convenient.

See how easy it is to navigate.

You can set and view geofencing on desktop and it will look like below

Geofences are used to define geographical areas,
to allow reports, alerts and tracking to be ringfenced to those defined areas.

The practical uses of geofencing are too many to list. Here is a list of the most used questions Cartrack users can get answered at a matter of few clicks, ie immediately:

  • Who did we send to do that job?
  • Was that job done?
  • When was this job done?
  • Were any of our clients not visited?
  • How much time have we spent on site for this project?
  • Can you let me know when they arrive?
  • Who has not gone?
  • Were all the vehicles serviced?
  • Who uses that filling station?
  • With normal use of tracking, these questions can be answered…. Given enough time.
  • With the use geofences they can be answered quickly.

Most GPS Tracking devices offer some form of geofencing. When you are choosing a GPS tracker for your fleet management it’s really important to understand how geofencing operates in each system to ensure you will be able to get answers on the questions you need.

All Cartrack users benefit from the following:

  • Unlimited easily created and edited geofences.
  • Importing of geofences from other tracking systems.
  • Creating geofences from address lists.
  • Newly created geofences work for historical data as well.
  • Reports and alerts per geofence.

A geofence can trigger text messages or prompt mobile push notifications to alert fleet owners and managers of any transgressions.

Geofencing has a wide range of benefits, such as preventing vehicle theft, intelligent business data and time keeping.

Should your vehicle be stolen and leave the geofence area that you created, you will be alerted and can take appropriate action to try to retrieve the stolen vehicle.

Make the most of Geofencing by collection intelligent, meaningful data for your business. By pairing up the data created by geofences with other information relating to driver performance, your fleet managers and drivers can ensure that they’re paying attention to the right key performance indicators, improving the way that you utilise resources in your business.

To keep your business on track geofencing can inform you when someone arrives at a site and leaves. This ensures that there is driver accountability, and allows you to make sure your drivers are on schedule.

How Geofencing can Benefit You

Modern fleet management offers many features that give you much better control of your fleet. One of these modern technological wonders is geofencing, which allows you to create a virtual perimeter for a real-world geographical area in which your vehicles are allowed to travel, ensuring that you always know exactly what is happening with your drivers.

How does geofencing work?

A geofence can either be created as a pre-defined set of boundaries or dynamically generated as a radius around a point location. How geofencing can benefit you:

  • Prevent vehicle theft: should your vehicle be stolen and leave the geofence area that you created, you will be alerted and can take appropriate action to try to retrieve the stolen vehicle.
  • More intelligence for your business: by pairing up the data created by geofences with other information relating to driver performance, your fleet managers and drivers can ensure that they’re paying attention to the right key performance indicators, improving the way that you utilise resources in your business.
  • Keep your business on track: geofencing can inform you when someone arrives at a site and leaves. This ensures that there is driver accountability, and allows you to make sure your drivers are on schedule.

Using different formats, Cartrack enables you to implement world-class geofencing for your fleet.

Never forget another RUC payment

If you drive a diesel or another type of non-petrol fuelled vehicle, then you know all about Road User Charges. Thankfully, the Cartrack system is seamlessly set up to allow you to calculate your RUC charges off road.

RUC is charged according to how many kilometres a vehicle travels, and its type and weight. All of this information is collected by the Cartrack system; the GPS calculates the distance covered. You can then setup a reminder for RUC expiry, using our Reminders functionality.
